THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PYJAMAS

Finished this book in about three days but it could be done in a day.  Fast, easy reading and entertaining.  This is a fictional story about a nine year old German boy, born to a father who is a high ranking official in Hitler's regime.  He meets a nine year old Jewish boy along the fence line of the concentration camp where his father is assigned to work.  They become friends and continue to meet almost over the course of a year and his parents are not aware of this friendship.  The German boy however is pretty oblivious to what his father does and to what's going on on the 'other side of the fence' and with his friend.  A surprise ending wraps the book up well.  It's a good book, though sad, and I would definitely recommend reading it.  Interesting that the author came up with this little scenario.  A reminder of the horrors and sadness of the Holocaust.  Very good book, thought provoking-glad I read it.
Next on the list...The Sky Is Everywhere.
